Kaletzi Achaia - My photos

Kaletzi village is one from the communities in the Achaia Prefecture with main community the Agios Georgios. Kaletzi is a mountainous seasonal village, built in the western side of mountain Erimanthos at 950 metres altitude. The village offers panoramic view to Ionian Sea, Patraikos Golf and the mountains of Roumeli (Sterea Ellas)
The place has extremely healthy climate, supported from marvellous forest from Firs, Oaks, Cedars and other forest trees, bushes and plants.
Kaletzi built before 1461 and is one of the 24 villages that shaped in 1836 the Tritea Municipality. Today it is constituted by 4 settlements: Agios Georgios, Avrami, Mpantzeika and the Kaletzi. This is the village of origin of two Prime Ministers of newer Greece (Georgjos - George Papandreou and son of Andreas Papandreou).
The spaces of recreation that offers this community are many, as the places Tsouka, Poros, Geladino, Magiras, Toumpi Panagias, Spetzouras and Kokini Rahi. Above the Kaletzi is found the top of mountain Erimanthos (2.224m), Prophet Elias and little below from this is found the rock Gerakouli, which constituted the natural clock of residents of wider region. On Erimanthos lived also that horrible and terrible boar that exterminated by the Hercules. This mountain also constituted the shelter of chased and the base of rebels operations during the Ottoman domination and later against the German and Italian possession.
In spaces of interest they are included the Abbey of Saint Ioannis Theologos in the settlement Basiliko, the remnants from a big ancient building in southern utmost of the Basilikon and the historical building of former municipal school that has been changed in Folklore Museum as well as in museum that "accommodates" the history of family Papandreou.
The Kaletzi as village is reported for first time in the Turkish tax lists 1461-63. The village also functions hotel "XENIA" and the tourist kiosk of Community.
